Tx Bd of Ed, LIVE: Still going, on Friday...
9:15 am Hurst-Euless-Bedford's Trinity High School Show Choir led off with a performance a la the TV show "Glee" of "The Lullaby of Broadway" and other tunes. Too bad they can't inspire the Board to work together as in "The Music Man," in which barbershop singing inspires a fractious local school board to work together...
9:30 am Cynthia Dunbar uses the opening invocation to neatly summarize The Faction's fundamental premise: She asks that the spirit of wisdom remind all present that the Founders intended a Christian republic, the Bill of Rights was inspired by their reading of the Bible, and our nation will only remain safe if EVERYONE acknowledges these facts about our past; all of this she asks, in the name of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.
9:45 am Board's consultant briefs them on Asset Allocation distribution for Texas Permanent School Fund. Most of the 12 TV cameras are turned off, because this is the equivalent of listening to paint dry.
10:15 am Rick Agosto (D-San Antonio) is making a point about how the Board's official definitions of asset buckets (international small cap, international large cap, etc.) aren't lining up with the way their consultant, NEPC, has analyzed them. Unfortunately, his communication style is merely confusing the issue, bless his heart!
10:45 am Code of Ethics is approved on second reading. Break until 11 am, but that means time for interviews. FOX guy wearing a suit, jeans, and sneakers interviews TEA spokeperson. Four TV cameras turn on on McLeroy at the same time--local FOX, Univision, NVC, and move. Plus a still photographer flutters around the edge shooting flashes. At the same time, Pat Hardy, Mary Helen Berlanga, and Cynthia Dunbar all interviewed, as is Kathy Miller from the Texas Freedom Network.
