President Obama says "read to your child."

"Turn off the TV, put away the video games, and read to your child."
-President Obama

President Obama's "Educate to Innovate" program is getting a response from educational computer game companies. There's a mild irony here, but it's also a wonderful illustration of the country (and world)'s current move toward technology as an educational source.

There is one view in which technology is still merely for "fun." From this perspective, President Obama is not encouraging the game companies. He is specifically saying, "put away the video games." Another view, from the opposite end of the spectrum, says that print is soon to disappear, technology is the way of the future, and "read to your child" is emphasizing the need for human connection, though the reading may soon be done from a Kindle, not a book.

But my favorite view is more moderate, and I believe it is the view the game companies discussed in this article (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/26203/ESA_Sony_Microsoft_Respond_To_O...) are taking as well. I think print and technology have a place beside one another. Games - not the stereotypical video games, but educational games, can promote STEM education. And after the game portion of the evening is done, then it's time to put away the video games, and read.
