Flash: McElroy nomination left hanging in committee

After a brutal cross-examination by Democratic senators Elliot Shapleigh (El Paso) and Kirk Watson (Austin), a parade of 6 witnesses asked the committee to deny confirmation, followed by 2 defenders of McElroy. At this point, it was late in the evening past 7:30 CST, and the nomination was left pending as all members of the committee but the chair had left. (But before he left, Shapleigh announced he would enter a "motion to sever" asking the chair to [support a request to the governor to nominate somebody else] **CORRECTION: let the nomination be considered and debated on its own on the Senate floor, as there are doubts it will pass.** Will provide detals in this space soon (electrical outlets are almost impossible to find in the Capitol...)
